Typically, smart security devices use Wi-Fi or bluetooth to stay connected with you through a mobile application. These devices may also have batteries or landlines to operate amidst power outages. When you step out of your home, you use your security remote and arm all these devices at one go.

Now, based on the device you have, you may get several options on your phone. You can livestream the footage of your IP camera, have a conversation with visitors through a video doorbell, or receive alerts from sensors upon a breach.

And once you get back home, you disarm these devices as needed and sit back. But safety sensors like gas and smoke sensors are typically left armed. Which is always recommended.
